10.Deep Runs The Mixtape Game!

About the same time Nas stated "Hip-Hop Is Dead", NYC clothing line 10 DEEP decided to tap into the rising "alternative/hipster" Hip-Hop scene to hi-light the new talent that is keeping the genre alive.  Lil' Wayne and T.I. are keeping Southern Hip-Hop on top but true fans of the art form have finally found a new generation of artists that not only produce evocative music but can run the dance floor too.  10 years ago it seemed you were either in line with Bad Boy's Versace and Champagne popping club style or Rawkus' street level boombap.  This ultimately left a void in the middle.  Can't we enjoy lyricism and shake our asses at the same time?  We as "heads" were forced to either dress up to party with pretencious players or hit the underground club which typically had little to no women.  With artists like The Cool Kids, Kid Sister, Lupe Fiasco, and Kidz In The hall the void has been filled and 10.Deep had vision enough to champion the scene.

DC based MC Wale made noise enough in 2007 to make numerous major magazines "people to watch in 2008" lists.  A lot of that buzz came from his 10.Deep produced and Seinfeld inspired mix "The Mixtape About Nothing".  With 2009 just beginning, the biggest club floor burner has got to be Kid Cudi's "Day N Night" thanks to a blazing remix from Crookers.  As an unsigned rapper he has toured the world with Kanye West amoung other things and it's all due to the 10.Deep mix CD "A Kid Named Cudi" which has gained the type of praise typically received by an official album.  Finally, the hottest thing on the streets as of Dec. 2008/Jan. 2009 has got to be the latest 10.Deep release "The New Deal" put together by DJ Benzi and featuring all the top players: Kanye, Kid Sister, Kidz In The Hall, and of coarse Cudi & Wale.  If you haven't got up to speed with the new movement in Hip-Hop then download all three of the mixes below and see for yourself.  More to come...
