"This Is Why I'm Hot"
rapper MIMS is about to release his 2nd CD and has taken steps to embrace the current evolved sounds emerging in Hip-Hop. Thanks to the success of his collaboration with Reggae legend
Jr. Reid
and Dancehall veteran
Cham
he has cut a new single with one of the Marley sons and reunited with Cham for 2 cuts on the album. About the reggae collaborations, MIMS stated, "They're not Hip-Hop tracks, it's just good music," in a recent interview with myself and The Soul Controller Mix Show on WPFW in Washington DC.
Most important to our readers is his label seeking out
Baltimore Club veteran DJ Class
for a remix to his current single "Move". MIMS is the first rapper to embrace the B-More sound since
Kid Cudi and Crookers
blew up with their Baltimore-like "Day N Night" remix. Marylanders have been expecting their world famous genre to hit the mainstream for several years but it seems like '09 might be the magic number.
In similar news:
Redman
will release the single
"I Hold The Crown"
in late April with a number of Electro remixes including one by H.O. favorite
GiGi Barocco
(also featured on GiGi's "Pass The Butter" mix CD available on our site). This is a trend started by
Kanye
(Kid Sister "Pro-Nails") and
N.O.R.E.
(MSTRKRFT "Bounce") that may lure more and more veteran lyricists to a sub-genre that has more true Hip-Hop elements than current Rap music. This may mean trouble for the more fun and less lyric oriented rappers that have helped to catapult the culture.
Check out the MIMS track, download it and spin it in the clubs if you're a DJ. Don't forget to download GiGi Barocco's Pass The Butter mix (currently on our main page) to hear the Redman remix.
