HAS DUBSTEP GONE POP?
Pop Queen Rihanna Disses Over Dubstep Beat


It's been a long uphill road for the wobbly bass sounds of Dubstep to break as big as it has in the past year.  Question is, with Electro going pop in a big way, will Dubstep follow and make an impact on Urban or Top 40 Radio?  An omen recently dropped in our laps in the form of new comer (and Lil' Wayne affiliate) Nicki Minaj deciding to drop a diss track written for Rihanna (as in for her to sing, not dissing her) that utilizes Chase & Status's "Saxon" as the beat!  Rumours are flying that she's talking to Beyonce but that's only speculation.  The juicier subject is if this will start an avalanche of interest in this gritty subgenre, thus ending it before it could peak.  Your guess is as good as ours.  In the meantime, check out this reference track featuring Nicki Minaj and make your own decision.
