DAFT PUNK TAKE ON HOLLYWOOD

"Daft" may be the moniker they adopted after a less than flattering review of some of their earlier music releases, but their business decisions over the last decade have proven they are anything but that.  Daft Punk (french producers/DJ's Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo) have pioneered stage theatrics with their robot costumes and visual presentations (their Alive 2007 CD earned them multiple Grammy Awards in 2009), produced the music for a Louis Vuitton fashion show, loaned numerous songs and their image for use in the hugely successful DJ Hero video game, and now they are prepped to take on Hollywood.

In 2009 it was announced that Disney would produce a sequal to their 1982 classic film Tron, the story of a video game designer who is transported into his program only to find himself trapped in a digital world where slave people/programs are forced to play games to the death.  Tron Legacy, as in the real world, will take place 20+ years after the original and will co-star oscar winner Jeff Bridges, reviving his role as Flynn.  Not only did this news cause a similtaneous geek-gasm accross the blogosphere but the music world was equally as thrilled to learn that the film's music would be scored by Daft Punk!  Barring a Matrix 4 coming out anytime (ever), could you think of a better platform for the robot rockers to flex their musical muscle?  I don't think so.

Finally, with the release of the new Star Wars themed line of shoes and clothing from Adidas, a high profile ad campaign was launched featuring a rogues gallery of music, movie, and sports figures including...you guessed it...Daft Punk.  Along with Snoop Dogg, David Beckahm, Jay Baruchel, Oasis, and more, the disco duo are magically placed into the Mos Eisley Cantina scene from the first (or is it episode 4) Star Wars movie.  Daft Punk are teamed up with C3-PO and R2D2 then stopped at the door when the bartender classically states, "We don't serve their kind here, they're droids."  After getting in they are tasked to negotiate with Han Solo (Harrison Ford) in place of Obi Won and Luke.  This is guaranteed to go down as a viral classic.

While us fans eagerly await new material from D.P., they have indeed become more famous in the 5 year downtime they have had since their last album, Human After All, in 2005.  in the meantime, enjoy the Adidas ad below as well as the Tron Legacy movie trailer that gives us a sneak peak at their new music.
