REVIEW
VASKI
Dreamworld (Nightmare) - EP

For the past couple of years, Vaski has been touring the globe, shaking up the EDM scene with his electro inspired Dubstep. His latest EP, Dreamworld (Nightmare), is a five-track album displaying the production skills and range of musical capacity Vaski has established himself capable of. At only 20 years of age, the Minneapolis native has certainly earned respect in the music world with his debut EP, Resonate, reaching the top 10. His latest album, Dreamworld (Nightmare), which recently came out on Rottun Records, takes what we know of Vaski and watches him push the realms of Dubstep to new levels of bass.

The music on this album is phenomenal, borrowing a little bit from several genres with the addition of a lot of bass, finding balance between dreams and nightmares to tell a tale only felt through music. The rhyme scheme of the hip-hop inspired Limitless offers not only a consistent heaviness to the melody, but a cool reminiscence of the days when rap meant something other than doing some kind of dance. This is followed nicely by Breakdown, which though at first knocks you in the face with deep and hard sounds, soon moves to a peaceful journey through soft strobes of musical light, only to shake its listeners and bring them right back to the speakers. On his next track, Hydra, Vaski lays a female voice down to tell a story of heartache over the otherwise angry and heavy beat. The EP title track Dreamworld, feat. Audiodasity, is most like what we have come to expect from Vaski, and yet with the lyrical voice of Audiodasity, it rings a hint of Borgore. The album closes out much like it started with the heavy and light sections that Vaski deems Hardstyle, proclaiming the evident musical talent of one of Dubstep’s youngest and best.

In the end, not that there is one for Vaski in the near future, Dreamworld (Nightmare) does not fail to deliver on any level of a true Dubstep fan’s expectations. It continuously surprises its listeners at every turn and all transitions from one track to the next. Enter into Vaski’s Dreamworld and you will understand how this talented artist synthesizes two modes of sleep into a musical balance that awakens a real story.
