The first rapper to take Hip-Hop to the world with major label money and collect a plaque in the process wasn't Big Bank Hank or Melly Mell, it was Kurtis Blow. Thanks to hits that haven't left the clubs in decades, including "The Breaks", Kurtis Blow set the stage for others like his proteges Run-D.M.C. and manager Russle Simmons to make Hip-Hop the phenomenon it has become.
