BBC RADIO 1's ESSENTIAL MIX
BEST OF PART 3: 1990's CLASSICS
Hipster Overkill is bringing you across the pond for the 3rd time. Not only that, but we're taking you back in time to the glorious 90's with some of the episodes that made Essential Mix the legendary program it is. Notably, we bring you the "Goa Mix" by Paul Oakenfold, which is considered the best episode of all time. Other notable features include David Holmes' "Northern Soul" mix, Daft, Punk, Felix Da Housecat, and a rare DJ set by Portishead. Once again, big ups to the staff at Radio 1 and Mr. Pete Tong for providing us with the hands down best mix show on the planet.

PORTISHEAD4/23/1995
The band that popularized Trip Hop and spawned a million imitators took time to drop a DJ set for Radio 1 back in 1995 after the success of their debut album Dummy. People unfamiliar with their production process may not know that they would record organic instruments on to vinyl acetates in order to manipulated them with samplers and turntables in true Hip-Hop fashion. This mix gives you a chill blend of classic mid 90's Hip-Hop and break beats.

DAVID HOLMES"Northern Soul Mix"
6 /15/1997
Similar to Oakenfold's "Goa Mix", it must mean the mix is legendary if it has a name. Eclectic and Diverse DJ/Producer David Holmes from Ireland came to pay homage to the soul music of the 1960's with his appearance on Essential Mix in 1997. Keep in mind, this pre-dates guys like DJ Shadow & Z Trip made crate digging cool, and it's a decade before Amy Winehouse "popularized" old school soul. With that in mind, this mix must have been mind blowing at the time of it's first airing. Download and play at your next cookout...trust me...
