NICK CATCHDUBS (Fool's Gold Records): Video Interview

FROM BROOKLYN TO THE WORLD
Nick Catchdubs and Fool's Gold Records
DJ, business man, and all around tastemaker,
Nick Catchdubs
went from writing about cutting edge talent to putting his money on it. With a respectable position as an editor at The Fader, one of the few mainstream magazines with an ear to what's bubbling on the under, Nick was responsible for writing about the scene he loves and pays homage to during his DJ sets across the country. When he and business partner DJ
A-Trak
(a 5 time world turntablist champ and tour DJ for Kanye West) decided that the U.S. needed a dance label worthy of standing besides major Electro stables in Europe they founded
Fool's Gold Records.
Quickly the label found credibility throughout the blogosphere thanks to releases by
Kid Sister,
a rapper from Chicago, and affiliations with seemingly every up & coming MC from
Wale
to
The Cool Kids
. They quickly followed up with a string of Electro dance hits from A-Trak,
Treasure Fingers
, and more but it wasn't until the crossover success of Kid Cudi's "Day N Night" that the label shot beyond
Diplo's Mad Decent
and
Steve Aoki's Dim Mak Records
to become the State's preeminent home for Electro.
While spinning a set in Brooklyn for the
Famous Frineds
promotion crew Hipster Overkill's
MC Shawn Lucas
pulled Nick to the side for a quick talk.
Producer/Video Editor: D. Painter, Videographer: Alexis Fedoroff
